Does Maintenance Have an Expiration Date? No!

Monday, May 8th, 2023

Summer is closing in, and if you haven’t yet scheduled your air conditioning maintenance in Clearwater, FL or elsewhere in our service area, this is one of the best times to get it done. We aren’t exaggerating when we say this is the most important service for your comfort during the coming summer.

But what if you can’t manage to have a maintenance tune-up and inspection scheduled before summer starts? You might think that you’ve missed the window and therefore you’ll have to wait until next spring to have it done.

This isn’t true! There is no “expiration date” when it comes to AC maintenance (or any type of HVAC maintenance). Although spring is an ideal time for it, the only absolute necessity is that you have it done annually.

Best Ways to Avoid a Failed Compressor in Your Air Conditioner

Monday, April 10th, 2023

What is the essential component of your home’s air conditioning system? Okay, this is a bit of a trick question, because there are multiple components in an AC that are essential for it to function properly. But there’s one that deserves the “essential” title more than the others: the compressor.

This is the device that places refrigerant under pressure so it will circulate through the rest of the system and go through the process of heat exchange. If it fails, it usually means the whole air conditioning system needs a replacement. The compressor is a pricy component, and it’s often not worth it to replace just the compressor.

So, if possible, you want to avoid a dead compressor in your AC. How can you do that? We have some advice that will help you keep your air conditioner around for as long as possible thanks to a healthy compressor.

Why Does My Air Conditioning System Run So Much?

Monday, September 5th, 2022

air-conditioner-evaporator-coilWhen it gets hot outside, you can expect your air conditioning system to run for longer and spend less time cycled down. This is the AC operating as it’s supposed to, and usually nothing to worry about. You can work to reduce heat in your house by closing shades, and you can raise the thermostat to a higher (but still comfortable) temperature to shorten how long your AC runs.

But if the AC does seem like it’s running constantly, especially if it also doesn’t seem to be making the house appreciably cooler, then you may have a problem. Sometimes the solution is simple, but in other cases, you’ll need to call us for air conditioning repair in New Port Richey, FL. Let’s take a look at some of the common causes of the “runaway AC.”

What Are the Normal Sounds From an AC?

Monday, July 4th, 2022

relaxed-womanAir conditioning systems don’t yet have a way to self-diagnose malfunctions and clearly communicate them to homeowners. (Although we have no doubt this technology will emerge in the future.) Instead, homeowners have to know the various warning signs of an AC that’s struggling. One of the most common warnings is an odd noise. We’ve written before about some of these AC strange sounds to listen for

You can approach warning sounds from the other side as well: what sounds should you expect to hear from your AC when it’s running in good condition? In this post we’ll go over the standard noises an AC makes to give you a better sense of when something sounds wrong so you can act on it and call us for air conditioning repair in Tampa, FL!

How to Detect Refrigerant Leaks in Your AC

Monday, June 7th, 2021

air-conditioner-condenser-3D-renderIn our last post, we discussed water leaking from an air conditioning system. This is an easy problem to detect: you only have to notice water dripping from the AC cabinet. But there’s another type of leak that can affect an air conditioner, and it’s both more damaging for the air conditioner and more difficult to detect until it becomes a major problem, and that’s refrigerant leaks.

Your AC is designed to run on a specific amount of refrigerant (known as its charge). Any loss in that amount will cause the air conditioner to malfunction and eventually lead to the compressor burning out. When that happens, the system usually must be replaced. So leaking refrigerant is an AC repair you want to get done as soon as you can. Below we’ve listed the signs that will help you know when to call us for AC repair in Spring Hill, FL because of a possible refrigerant leak.

How Water Can Leak from Your AC

Monday, May 10th, 2021

water-dropletsWhen you listen to your air conditioning system running during the summer, you’ll occasionally hear the sound of dripping water. Your air conditioner doesn’t use water to cool the house (there’s a separate type of cooling system called an evaporative cooler that uses water, but these are rare in Florida); the sound you’re hearing is moisture drawn from the air as the AC goes through its cooling cycle.

For the most part, you don’t need to think about this water—an air conditioning system is designed to remove moisture from the unit and either allow it to drip outside or enter into the wastewater system. But like any component in an air conditioner, the parts designed to remove water can malfunction, and this is why you might see water dripping from your AC.

Don’t Let AC Maintenance Slip Past This Spring

Monday, April 12th, 2021

AC-maintenanceSummer is on the way! You can feel it in the air—and maybe you’re even feeling it from your air conditioning system.

If so … hold on there a minute! Are you running your AC already but haven’t scheduled AC maintenance in Clearwater, FL? There’s nothing that says you can’t start running your air conditioner as soon as it’s warm enough, but we don’t recommend you go for much longer without arranging spring maintenance for the AC. This is the most important step you can take to ensure your air conditioning system runs smoothly for the summer and doesn’t leave you with unexpected bills for repairs or low system energy efficiency.
